Picture

-Professional Escape Artist
-Mastermind of all barn shenanigans
-Reining champion of "you can't catch me"
-One of those old retired guys who never stops reliving his "glory days"
-Over-achiever at how many times he can get yelled at for opening the feed room gate
-Holds the record for most requested horse to be brushed by our 5 year old (see pictures.)
Caine made his way through our gates after we rescued him from auction back on November 28th of 2020. He was saddled and rode through, hiding just how skinny and unhealthy he truly was. No information was given in the ring other than something along the lines of “get yourself a nice riding horse”. It was neck in neck with the kill buyer— he was "straight loading" one horse after another that night.... but we somehow managed to take the winning bid on Caine. And thank goodness we did!

We got him home and quickly realized we were dealing with an underweight, senior ranch broke gelding, needing lots of groceries and possibly retirement. One dental appointment later and numerous teeth pulled— he earned his forever retirement here at WRR. This fella is around THIRTY years old (you read that right... 30!!) and our nearly toothless wonder. I can’t even put a number on how many buckets of mashed alfalfa he has had here... but oh did he gain weight and show his full personality in no time.

We often joke around saying we couldn't imagine dealing this fella in his prime. No... we’re not exaggerating when we say that Caine is a professional escape artist. Got a chain around the gate? He’ll undo it. Is he inside a stall? He’ll figure out a way... only before releasing every single horse in the barn for an aisle party. (Trust me, it’s happened.) Double knots? He can untie them! Doesn’t want to be in a pasture anymore? No big deal, he’ll just help himself out and raid the feed room. I know what you’re thinking... isn’t he a dead broke old ranch horse? For sure! He’ll spin a hole in the ground and probably still give you a bootie-in-the-ground stop if you saddled him up! But he’ll act like a wild BLM mustang if you want to catch him on a random Tuesday and so happen to look at him the wrong way.

If it isn't his idea, it simply won't happen!
You can usually find him being mauled by a kiddo, living his best life sun bathing and grazing in the pasture (or.. pretending to graze. Chewing grass is not the toothless wonder's best skill!) or causing mass chaos in the barn.
He constantly keeps us on our toes with his shenanigans, opinions and his “grumpy old man” personality.

“Caine gets what Caine wants”... he lives by that motto...
and ensures everyone else does too! It’s okay... He’s earned that right!
